Quick Evaluation of Spring Game

I’ve said all along not to look too much into the Spring Game, and base any expectations of what is shown in the game.

Yet I can’t help but get excited, for four main reasons.

One is that a few guys (specifically running backs) that I’ve never heard of stepped up and had big games.

The second thing is that there are better players that didn’t play, so pardon the offense’s ineptitude.

The third thing was how happy and comfortable John Brantley looked at QB, instead of spending 10 seconds wondering what boneheaded play would be ordered in next.

And the fourth reason I was excited was that the defense (admittedly against a thin offensive line) was dynamite. The front 7 played lights out, getting as much pressure on the QB as possible in a non contact scrimmage.

And on a totally different note, how awesome was it to see Tim Tebow and Danny Wuerffel come home?

Pretty sweet for them, to say the least.

I just wish Spurrier was here, because despite what happened last year, there’s still a soft spot for him in my mind, because of all he’s done.

Anyway, watch the full game replay (or most of it) here:

  1. I was really impressed with Tyler Murphy he seemed to have a better handle on the offense at first, but I agree with ya Neil Brantley seemed so much more comfortable even now in the spring game than he did at all last year. And one big difference I saw was coach Weis having John attached to his hip when he wasn’t on the field, unlike you know who.

  2. I really enjoyed watching it! I thought John looked a lot more comfortable during the game as well, unlike last year. But that sure didn’t help to stop a bunch pee-brains from laying into him after this game. I mean I can’t believe how many times I read “Brantley still f-ing sucks” and “I wish Tim would come back”. smh -.-

  3. Everybody that’s ripping on John Brantley has to remember, the offensive line was very injury ridden and the defensive line was fantastic, which sped up the process more than it’s going to be in real games (hopefully). But again, that’s good defense.

  4. I wonder if the offense doesn’t produce if we could use the 2000 Baltimore Ravens philosophy, score two touchdowns and have a defense that just mauls everything in sight. It got them a super bowl maybe it can get us at least an SEC title, stranger things have happened.

  5. ‎3 things I learned from the Orange and Blue debut: 1) John Brantley never ever needs to start another game for FLA, he is NOT the QB of the future. If he takes the feild we will see a repeat of last year. He looked so uncomfortable. 2) Jeff Driskle is the REAL DEAL. He took his offense and with ease drove them down the feild to score the first touchdown of the Orange and Blue game. His presence on the feild is very Tebow-esque he or Tyler Murphy should be the starting QB 3) There is a prostyle offense coming to FLA thanx Weis

  6. In my small opinion the jury is still out on Brantley. Murphy looked better and he had the same no name guys blocking for him. I really hope Brantley plays well this year I hope that I am WRONG
