Gators’ Stranglehold on Rivals May Never Be Seen Again

Spread the love

Gators fans, let’s all collectively admit it.

We are spoiled.

Never before in history have we so dominantly owned Georgia, Tennessee, FSU, and the majority of the SEC all at the same time. Of course, this may have something to do with two of our previous three head coaches being fantastic, but….

Think about this. We’ve won six straight against Tennessee. 18 of the past 21 against Georgia. 24 straight against Kentucky. 22 in a row against Vanderbilt. We’d won 6 straight against FSU until Steve Addazio’s suckage finally caught up with us against a rival.

Have any of you ever seen this before?

I haven’t.

Not even Bear Bryant could do this to his rivals.

But this is so incredible that it can’t possibly last forever.

So again, and I’m going to keep harping on this all year, have some patience with Muschamp. If Florida loses 5 games this year, including 2 against rivals, then just relax. Even Meyer’s first year wasn’t so good. But the next four were, which is going to leave us with rediculous if not unreasonable demands for Muschamp.

Muschamp will get it figured out, I know he will.

Put it this way- if I can have a year’s patience with Steve Addazio… who turned out to be… you know… have at least a years worth of patience with Muschamp.

  1. Completely agree man, I’ve never seen this kind of domination before and muschamp will figure it out maybe in less than a year BOOM!

  3. Bear Bryant went 73-16-1 vs rivals for his whole career at Bama

If you are counting only UT and Auburn as traditional rivals, he was 34-11-2

    Meyer was 18-2
    Spurrier was 23-13-1
    Zook was 5-7

Meyer’s brief run was impressive, but Bryant owned all of college football, not just the SEC

Bryant’s teams also faced much tougher opponents as well.

  4. BTW Barry Switzer’s 70s Oklahoma teams owned the fuck out of their rivals.

Switzer’s Oklahoma teams are the only ones worthy of mentioning with Bear Bryant’s Tide teams.

  5. I’m not saying anything about Meyer in particular… I’m just mentioning that the runs the Gators are on ties or breaks series records. Georgia, Kentucky and Vandy in particular… of course, the last two are not especially powerful programs- but nobody else has a streak like that going on anybody else aside from UT on Kentucky.

  6. Just in the past decade, some impressive streaks have snapped

ND over Navy 43 in a row ended in 2006
Nebraska over Kansas 36 in a row ending in 2004
Nebraska over Mizzou 24 in a row ending in 2002
